National Concussion Awareness Day
Today is National Concussion Awareness Day, and we’ve come a long way from concussions not being treated as real injuries and something to just shake off. Now, athletes (both professional and at every level) are speaking out, and the conversations around head injuries or impact are more public than ever. However, post-care still has a long way to go, and that’s the gap we're working to close.
Too many who sustain a head impact never get or seek proper treatment or follow-up beyond the initial “you’re fine, just rest”. Recovery is treated as a waiting game rather than something to actively monitor. The British Medical Journal released a report recently that at least 1 in 4 former NFL players who passed between 2016 and 2021 had confirmed CTE. But let’s face it, the number is probably higher. Head injuries aren’t something you recover from and move past in a single moment. It requires a more efficient delivery of care over a period of time.
The gap in care is exactly what Mindsigns Health™ is working to address. Our objective is to improve monitoring and mitigate some of the potential hazards that come out of playing contact sports. Hits can come from sports and non-sports events. The symptoms from a concussion are very individualized. Your physiology can affect severity and the time needed to return to full functionality. At Mindsigns Health™ we are motivated every single day to close that gap and provide the relevant product and tools to providers and patients.
